biographical statement
The House Health and Welfare Committee, in existence from 1969-1994, was replaced by the Health and Human Services Committee in 1995. This regularly considered bills dealing with a wide variety of issues concerning health care and various services provided by the state. Some topics include mental health, availability of health care, patients’ rights, standards for medical facilities, and the keeping and issuing of vital statistics. The Health and Welfare Committee reviewed regulations of the Department of Health.

The 1993-1994 session of the Health and Welfare Committee was chaired by David Richardson Jr. (Majority). Vincent Hughes was Subcommittee Chairman of Health, while Karen A.
