Scope and Contents

In its final report, the Select Committee recommended items such as taking sabbatical leave only when professional development or health reasons interfered; requiring state institutions to use a common travel agent and adopting stricter guidelines for travel reimbursement; and developing more specific guidelines for record-keeping and use of non-preferred appropriations. The Select Committee also reaffirmed support for tuition reduction for employees of state institutions and their dependents.

This collection is arranged alphabetically by subject. The records have been slightly water damaged, however no information was lost. The final report of the Select Committee is contained within these records, as is written testimony to the Committee, and agendas and information for the public hearings held in Harrisburg and Lockhaven regarding the issues that the Committee was facing.

Pursuant to House Rule 45 of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives (titled “Powers and Duties of Standing Committees and Subcommittees”) governing the management and disposition of historically valuable committee material, the secretary of the committee must record the attendance of Members and any votes taken, the minutes of the meeting and records, bills, and other papers in the possession of committees and subcommittees which must be submitted to the Chief Clerk at the end of every two year legislative session for permanent archival storage.
