Scope and Contents
In addition to addressing all normal sorts of committee business, during the 1977-1978 Session, the Federal State Relations Committee dealt with several specific issues. House Bills 2678 and Senate Resolution 1596 address the pros and cons of the District of Columbia obtaining representation in the United State Congress. Funding for Energy Development, particularly Nuclear Feeder Reactors was address by House Resolution 54. House Resolutions 117 and 188 deal with a proposed Inland Waterways user fee for barge transport, with which funding for replacement of dams and locks could be provided. House Resolution urges the Olympic Committee to halt the exclusion of Israel from the 1980 Olympic Games; and Senate Resolution 208 proposes liberalization of the excess earnings provision of the Social Security Law. In this collection, the Bills and Resolutions listed above are supported by at least one of the following: bill analysis, testimony, Representative statements, correspondence, newspaper articles, and ephemera. For each of the topics listed above, the folders include materials such as bill analyses, correspondence, press, remarks and testimony.
The committee was chaired by James Ritter. Serving with him were: Bernard Dombroski as Vice Chair and Leland Beloff as Secretary.
