Pursuant to House Resolution 231 of 1984, the Special Bipartisan Committee to Study and Investigate Home Equity Conversions and Reversible Mortgages was created. The Speaker of the House of Representatives appointed a bipartisan committee of nine members of the House of Representatives, five from the majority party and four from the minority party, to conduct a thorough study and investigation of home equity conversions and reversible mortgages. The committee held many public hearings at various locations to take testimony and make report of their findings thereafter. The members of the committee were as follows; Representatives Edward Haluska (D), Frank Pistella (D), Roy Afflerbach (D), Peter Daley (D), David Mayernik (D), Robert Godshall (R), Joseph Lashinger (R), George Pott (R) and Christopher Wogan (R).
