Scope and Contents
This collection reflects the entirety of Michael A. Vereb legislative career from 2007-2016. Vereb was particularly concerned with police officer safety and recognition, youth health, and the protection of youth from sexual offense.
The most extensive portion of this collection deals with what Vereb calls the Price Legislation, an amendment introduced by Vereb in 2007 seeking to eliminate the statute of limitations when a law enforcement officer is the victim of aggravated assault. Vereb spearheaded this legislation to honor a fellow police officer, Sgt. Paul Price, who was badly beaten and had his weapon stolen- a weapon used in another crime 10 years later. A substantial amount of correspondence, research, press conference materials, co-sponsor confirmations, bill drafts, and other resources surrounding this amendment are included in this collection.
Vereb’s legislative work from 2009-2010 is not included in this collection, but his work concerned Sudden Cardiac Arrest in 2011-2012 session and work on providing for the offense of sexual assault by sports official, volunteer or employee of a nonprofit association in 2013-2014 session are included.
Other resources include personal correspondence, news clippings from all five of his elected terms, promotional photographs, and photo copies of various awards Vereb received throughout his tenure in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.
