In 1991, Pennsylvania was to close several state hospitals and/or divesting ownership/operation to a private entity. The people of Belfanti's district bombarded his office with letters and petitions to keep the Shamokin Hospital open. The Commonwealth did eventually divest ownership to the Lower Anthracite Community Hospital Corporation (LACH). The series is primarily made up of correspondence, extensive collection of newsclippings, and reports/studies, as well as the board meetings of the LACH in which Belfanti was a member.
