Biographical Statement

Kathy M. Manderino was born in Monessen, Westmoreland County, Pa., October 28, 1958 and graduated from Monessen High School in 1976. She received her Bachelors of Science in public service from The Pennsylvania State University in 1980 and Doctor of Law degree from Temple University in 1989. Kathy worked as a program developer, Council for Labor and Industry from 1980 through 1983, a director of member services, Philadelphia Area Labor-Management Commission from 1985-1989 and worked with attorney, Fox, Rothschild, O’Brien and Frankel from 1989-1992.

Manderino was elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1993 term and reelected to 8 consecutive terms thereafter.Kathy M. Manderino (D) was born in 1958, in Monessen. She is the daughter of the late James J. and Constance A. Manderino. She graduated from Penn State in 1980, then graduated from Temple in 1989. Manderino was elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives of the 194th District, representing Montogomery and Philadelphia Counties, in 1992 to serve nine consecutive terms until 2010. Manderino Chaired the Subcommittee on Health and Welfare of the Appropriations Committee, the Ethics Committee, the Subcommittee on Family Law of the Judiciary Committee. In addition, she was on the Health and Human Services Committee, Insurance Committee, and the Intergovernmental Affairs Committee. Manderino handled topics such as drug and alcohol treatment, education, mental health care, probation and parole, death penalty, child custody, universal health care, and many more. Manderino was not a candidate for reelection to the House for the 2011 term and became senior vice-president of Intercommunity Action, Inc. from 2012 through 2015. Appointed by Governor Wolf, Manderino is currently the Secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry. While serving at the House of Representatives, Manderino chaired the Subcommittee on Health and Welfare of the Appropriations Committee, the Ethics Committee, the Subcommittee on Family Law of the Judiciary Committee. In addition, she was on the Health and Human Services Committee, Insurance Committee and the Intergovernmental Affairs Committee. Kathy's father, James J. Manderino, was a previous member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. He was a Democrat who represented Westmoreland from 1967-1989. James Manderino was Speaker of the House in 1989.
