Ralph E. Kaiser was born August 27, 1950 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. After receiving a B.S. in business administration from Robert Morris College in 1973, he received a certificate in effective resource management at Penn State University in 1989. He was a steel worker for U.S. Steel and was elected a councilman for Brentwood Borough. Kaiser was elected in 1988 to represent the 41st district (Allegheny County) as a Democrat in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. He served in the office for six consecutive terms (1989-2002). He then went on to be the director of government affairs at WQED, a public television station.

Scope and Contents The collection reflects the entire legislative career of Ralph Kaiser. While in office, he was very interested in trying to find solutions to constituent problems or requests. The amount of correspondence received in Kaiser's office indicates a personal connection with his constituents. Many thank-you notes are found in the Correspondence series.
