The Environmental Resources and Energy Committee was established in 1995 to replace the Conservation Committee which was in existence from 1969-1994.
The Environmental Resources and Energy Committee handles all issues regarding the environment in Pennsylvania. The Committee has considered legislation and studied some major issues including wetlands, storm water management, mine reclamation, and the cleanliness of water. The Environmental Resources and Energy Committee covers legislation and issues formerly handled by the Conservation and the Mines and Energy Management Committees. The Committee is made up of two Standing Subcommittees, which are of great interest to the Commonwealth; these are Parks and Forests and Mining Subcommittees. Each of these Subcommittees was at one time Standing Committee within the House.
Over the years, the name and mission of this committee have evolved. Prior to 1969, the Conservation and Natural Resources Committee existed and prior to 1975, the Mines and Mineral Committee existed. From 1969-1994, the Conservation Committee existed, overlapped with the Mines and Energy Management Committee from 1975-1988.
