House. Labor Relations Committee

 Organization

biographical statement

In 2011, the Labor and Industry Committee replaced the Labor Relations Committee.

From 1973-78, the Labor Relations Committee was composed of 23 members, 14 from the majority and 9 from the minority. From 1979-95, there were 24 members, composed of 14 majority and 10 minority members. From 1995-2010, the committee was composed of 26 members, 15 from the majority and 11 from the minority. The Labor Relations Committee regularly focused on the following issues: increasing the minimum wage, migrant farm-workers, family & medical leave, the North American Free Trade Agreement, drug testing, worker disability, right to know laws, providing guidelines for workers compensation, part-time workers, and child labor laws. Due to the ever-changing Pennsylvania workforce, the committee needed to revisit these issues annually. This frequent activity can be seen in such actions as the yearly amendments that were made for such issues as adjusting minimum wage and refining child labor laws. In addition, the committee usually took two fact-finding tours each session, normally in the summer months.
