Mr. Hershey’s collection is an outstanding resource for researchers interested in agriculture, conservation, rural development and leadership, and recycling. Researchers interested in politics, the many concerns for legislators in Pennsylvania, and the Pennsylvania House of Representatives will also find this collection to be a valuable resource. The collection consists of campaign materials, biographical and office materials, legislative work from 1983-2008, topic files, information regarding House District 13, correspondence, press, speeches, photographs, memorabilia, awards and videos.

It is important to note that the processor of this collection maintained Mr. Hershey’s original order as much as possible, and therefore, although there are series entitled both press and correspondence, the collection is peppered with these types of material. The “Correspondence,” series consists largely of thank you notes and letters, while correspondence regarding legislation and topics was generally filed (by Mr. Hershey) within those files. Press was handled similarly by Mr. Hershey. As a result, researchers should search by topics first, as the bulk of related material will be found in those files.

Mr. Hershey also donated a number of oversized awards and certificates which are housed with other oversized materials. Mr. Hershey's scrapbooks were scanned and access to them is available to researchers visiting the House Archives.� Researchers interested in Mr. Hershey and the topics in which he was involved should inquire for his Oral History Interview which was conducted on October 29, 2008.
