Scope and Contents

The Environmental Resources and Energy Committee records from the 2009-2010 session, the Democrats in Majority. The Chairs were Camille George (Majority) and Scott Hutchinson (Minority). The Chairs of the Subcommittee on Mining were Ted Harhai (Majority) and Jeffrey Pyle (Minority). The Chairs of the Subcommittee on Parks and Forests were John Yudichak (Majority) and Martin Causer (Minority). The Chairs of the Subcommittee on Energy were Michael Gerber (Majority) and Garth Everett (Minority). The Secretaries were John Hornaman (Majority) and Matt Gabler (Minority).

The Committee dealt with the following issues: Natural Resources Conservation, Forestry, Marcellus Shale, Flood Hazards, Recycling and Waste Reduction, Sewage, Alternative Energy, and Biofuel.

This collection is arranged into four series: 1. Committee Records; 2. Meetings, Tours, and Public Hearings; 3. House Blue Backs; and 4. Senate Green Backs.

Method of Acquisition

Pursuant to House Rule 45 of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives (titled “Powers and Duties of Standing Committees and Subcommittees”) governing the management and disposition of historically valuable committee material, the secretary of the committee must record the attendance of Members and any votes taken, the minutes of the meeting and records, bills, and other papers in the possession of committees and subcommittees which must be submitted to the Chief Clerk at the end of every two year legislative session for permanent archival storage.
