Scope and Contents

The records of the Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee from the 2013-2014 session, the Republicans in majority. John Maher served as Chair with Joseph Petrarca serving as minority Chair. The Vice Chairs were Mike Reese (majority) and Deberah Kula (minority). The Secretaries were Mindy Fee (majority) and Brandon Newman (minority).

The Committee reviewed bills related to agricultural and rural topics, including amending the Dog Law (licensing, kennels, enforcement); cruelty to animals; farmland easements and conservation. The Committee also held informational meetings to hear information on tourism (Bloomsburg Fair), amusement parks safety, and genetically modified organisms.

Pursuant to House Rule 45 of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives (titled “Powers and Duties of Standing Committees and Subcommittees”) governing the management and disposition of historically valuable committee material, the secretary of the committee must record the attendance of Members and any votes taken, the minutes of the meeting and records, bills, and other papers in the possession of committees and subcommittees which must be submitted to the Chief Clerk at the end of every two year legislative session for permanent archival storage.
