Scope and Contents
The records of the Education Committee for the 2011-2012 session, the Republicans in majority. The Chairs were Paul Clymer (R) and James Roebuck (D). Will Tallman (R) served as the Secretary. This collection also contains the records of two Subcommittees: The Subcommittee on Special Education and the Subcommittee on Higher Education. Kathy L. Rapp (R) was the Chairman for the Subcommittee on Special Education. Bernard T. O'Neill was the Chairman for the Subcommittee on Higher Education.
One of the major topics of Committee meetings and hearings for this session was the effect of State cuts to education on Pennsylvania's public schools. The Committee held public hearings on ways to assess and increase school performance while balancing costs in the wake of lower funding for districts and teachers. The Committee also met on regulations regarding Charter and Cyber school funding.

Pursuant to House Rule 45 of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives (titled “Powers and Duties of Standing Committees and Subcommittees”) governing the management and disposition of historically valuable committee material, the secretary of the committee must record the attendance of Members and any votes taken, the minutes of the meeting and records, bills, and other papers in the possession of committees and subcommittees which must be submitted to the Chief Clerk at the end of every two year legislative session for permanent archival storage.
