Scope and Contents

This collection contains the records of the Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee for the 2011-2012 session, Republicans in majority. Chairs John A. Maher (R) and Joseph A. Petrarca (D) serving with Vice-Chairs Mike Reese (R) and Deberah Kula(D). The Secretary was Stephen Bloom (R). The committee met over major topics such as land-use tax exemptions, amendments to Pennsylvania's Dog Law regarding kennels, kennel-use, proper elimination methods for dogs, as well as� farm vehicle regulations, insect containment and regulation (specifically stinkbugs and honeybees). It held public hearings in Harrisburg and at Penn State's main campus on the state of the dairy industry, budget overviews for Penn State's College of Agricultural Science, as well as the previously mentioned issues of stinkbug and honeybee regulation.

Method of Acquisition

Pursuant to House Rule 45 of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives (titled “Powers and Duties of Standing Committees and Subcommittees”) governing the management and disposition of historically valuable committee material, the secretary of the committee must record the attendance of Members and any votes taken, the minutes of the meeting and records, bills, and other papers in the possession of committees and subcommittees which must be submitted to the Chief Clerk at the end of every two year legislative session for permanent archival storage.
