As the Chief Official Reporter for the House of Representatives, Jane Salay collected various materials both on and off the Floor. The Salay Collection contains files related to various events Jane attended, including the celebration of the United States Bicentennial in Philadelphia in 1976. The General Assembly held a special session in May of that year in which Jane was an attendant. Newspaper articles, brochures, Press Kit, and materials regarding the visit from Valery Giscard d'Estaing, President of France are housed in this series. Jane also attended the Pennsylvania Constitutional Convention in 1967 and 1968, serving as the Official Stenographer. This series contains handouts, booklets and the two-volume Debates of the convention. Other items in the Collection include newspaper clippings, invitations and programs, commemorative items, and her stenograph notes from select House Session days (assassination of Robert Kennedy, resignation of Speaker Herbert Fineman, assassination attempt of Ronald Reagan, and the 1976 Bicentennial Session. Two stenograph machines (with equipment) are also contained in the Collection.
