Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

The Youth and Aging Committee was created in the 1989-1990 Session to deal more specifically with the issues of the increasing older population in Pennsylvania as well as the young people. These issues had previously been handled by the Youth and Aging Subcommittee in the Health and Welfare Committee.

In 1991, the name of the Youth and Aging Committee was changed to the Aging and Youth Committee and this Committee remained in existence until 2000. In 2001, the Aging and Youth Committee was broken into two separate committees: The Aging and Older Adult Services Committee and Children and Youth Committees because the issues surrounding both the older population and the youth in Pennsylvania required in depth committee work in addition to the issues being entirely separate in concerns, approach and handling.

From 1991-2000, the Aging and Youth Committee handled issues spanning the age groups of infants to Pennsylvania’s older adults. Two subcommittees were created to handle these disparate topics: The Subcommittee on Aging and the Subcommittee on Youth.Sources: The Pennsylvania Manual; 1987-1988, 1989-1990, 1991-1992 and 2001-2002
