The 2007-2008 Transportation Committee handled the normal issues the Committee typically handles. In addition, they focused on distracted drivers and public and private partnerships and innovations in transportation. The Committee held public hearings or information briefings on the following topics: Allegheny Port Authority and North Shore Connector Project, storm response and incident management, public and private partnerships and innovations in transportation (House Bill 555 and Senate Bill 1158), issues with ports and waterways, regional airport studies (House Bill 1182), teen driving and distracted driver issues (House Bills 163, 1141, 1506, 1549 and 1827) the Red Light Camera Program (House Bills 1559 and 1690), aviation sales tax and security issues, transportation funding, diesel engine idling (Senate Bill 295), the status of the national and state transportation infrastructure, the Pennsylvania Turnpike (House Bill 2593), Pennsylvania bridges and their condition, and restrictions of use of highways and bridges (House Bill 2153).

The meeting and public hearing files in this collection contain attendance and vote records and minutes. Some folder contain legislative records and occasionally correspondence. However, for the most part, bill information, including amendments, analysis, correspondence, fiscal notes, press, research and summaries were separated from the meeting files. This information is available in the House Bill, House Resolution and Senate Bill series, as well as with the House Blue Backs, Senate Green Backs and House and Senate Resolutions that Died in Committee. John Siptroth served as Subcommittee Chair on Aviation; Timothy Solobay served as Subcommittee Chair on Highways; Michael Gerber served on Subcommittee Chair on Public Transportation; John Sabatina served as Subcommittee Chair on Railroads; and Dante Santoni served as Subcommittee Chair on Transportation Safety. Joseph Petrara served as the Committee's secretary. On the Republican side, Richard Geist served as Minority Chairman; Kate Harper served as Minority Chair of the Subcommittee on Aviation; John Evans served as Minority Chair of the Subcommittee on Highways; John Maher served as Minority Chair of the Subcommittee on Public Transportation; Ronald Miller served as Minority Chair of the Subcommittee on Railroads; and Katherine Watson served as Minority Chair of the Subcommittee on Transportation Safety.
