While celebrating Women's History Month, the House held "Celebration of Women 2001" on March 13, 2001. During the day, the House saluted the twenty-eight women who were serving as Members of the PA House. A press conference was held in the Capitol Rotunda featuring remarks by Speaker Matthew Ryan, First Lady Michele Ridge, Representative Elinor Z. Taylor, Representative Katie True, Sister Marie Roseanne Bonfini, president of Immaculata College, Pat Halpin-Murphy, president of the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition, and Dr. Joseph J. Kelly, executive director of the Pennsylvania Humanities Council. Also, Janet Klein, chairman of the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission was introduced in the House Chamber along with other prominent women supporting Women in History Month. The day also saw the release of "History of Women in the House of Representatives, 1923-2001" by Jeanne H. Schmedlen. A reception honoring the twenty-eight women legislators was held in the East Wing of the Capitol.
