Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

During the 2007-2008 Session, the Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee dealt, in depth, with the following topics: the Dog Law (House Bill 2525), the Future of Community Fairs, Agriculture Education and Careers, Providing for Organic Farming Transition Program and Establishing Organic Agriculture Development Fund (House Bill 2347), Agriculture Fair Share Funding and the Pennsylvania Farmland and Forest Land Assessment Act of 1974 (Clean and Green).

This collection includes significant information on the the Dog Law (House Bill 2525) with folders containing amendments, press, and comments, comparisons and correspondence regarding the Department of Agriculture's Proposed Dog Regulations.

The collection also contains two folders with correspondence to and from Chairman Michael Hanna regarding legislative issues discussed in the Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee. The correspondence indicates how the topics addressed in the Committee affect real people as well as the way in which the Committee responds to Pennsylvania's needs.

The majority of the meeting files include attendance, votes and minutes. There is virtually no legislation included in the files and very little research material.

The 2007-2008 Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee was chaired by Democrat Michael Hanna. With him, Gary Haluska served as Vice Chairman and David Kessler served as Secretary. On the Republican side, Arthur Hershey served as Minority Chairman, Bob Bastian served as Minority Vice Chairman and Mike Fleck served as Minority Secretary.
