The 2001-2002 Commerce and Economic Development Committee handled all typical issues dealt with by the Committee. In addition, however, they dealt with the following specific issues: Check Fraud and Identity Theft, Pennsylvania’s Economic Development Programs, Goods and Services Installment Sales Act (House Bill 1118), the Uniform Commercial Code Modernization Act of 2001 (Senate Bill 330), Pennsylvania Securities Act of 1972 (Senate Bill 893), Homeowners Emergency Assistance Program, the Financial Status of the Commonwealth, the Public School Employees’ Retirement System, and State Employees’ Retirement System.

This collection also includes the final reports of the Ben Franklin Technology Partnerships and Innovation Works.

During the 2001-2002 session, the Economic Development Subcommittee held public hearings on Internet Fraud and Internet Taxation and Workforce Development (House Bill 2778). The other two subcommittees ( the Financial Services and Banking Subcommittee and the Housing Subcommittee) did not provide any papers or documents for the 2001-2002 session.

The Commerce and Economic Development Committee, during the 2001-2002 Session, was chaired by Republican George C. Hasay. Fellow republicans chaired the following positions: Frank Tulli, Jr. served as Chair of the Economic Development Subcommittee, Bob Allen served as Chair of the Financial Services and Banking Subcommittee and Peter Zug served as the Chair of the Subcommittee on Housing. Thomas Stevenson served as the Republican Secretary. On the Democrat side, Thomas Caltagirone served as the Minority Chair of the Committee, Thomas Tangrtti served as Minority Chair on the Economic Development Subcommittee, Larry Roberts served as the Minority Chair on the Financial Services and Banking Subcommittee and Ralph Kaiser served as the Minority Chair on the Subcommittee on Housing. James Wansacz served as the Democrat's Secretary.
