Scope and Contents
The 2003-2004 Aging and Older Adult Services Committee was chaired by Republican Dick Hess. The Republicans did not have a majority Chair for the Subcommittee on Chair and Services, but Larry Sather served as the Chair on Subcommittee on Programs and Benefits and Katherine Watson served as Secretary. On the Democrat side, Frank Pistella served as Minority Chair, Steve Samuelson served as the Minority Chair of the Subcommittee on Care and Services, Richard Grucela served as Minority Chair of the Subcommittee on Programs and Benefits and Nick Kotik was the Democrat's Secretary.
A few of the issues on which the 2003-2004 Aging and Older Adult Services Committee focused were: Prescription Drug and Pharmaceutical Reform, Long Term Care Facilities, the Older Adult Protective Services Act (Act 79 of 1987) and Housing Issues affecting Older Pennsylvanians. In addition, the Legislative Budget and Finance Committee met with the Aging and Older Adult Service Committee to discuss their findings on the need for a Protective Services System for physically and cognitively impaired adults ages 18-59. Their research on this topic was pursuant to House Resolution 590 of 2002 which required the Legislative Budget and Finance Committee to study this issue.
