Scope and Contents
The records of the Mines and Energy Management Committee from the 1983-1984 session, the Democrats in majority. The Chairs were Joseph A. Petrarca (majority) and James L. Wright, Jr. (minority). The vice chairs were George Mixcevich (majority) and Jess M. Stairs (minority). The secretary was William J. Stewart (majority). In this collection, there are records of various meetings over energy questions as well as tours of abandoned and operational mines throughout Pennsylvania. Issues covered by this committee include energy conservation and preservation, coal and mining regulations, investigations of coaling areas in Pennsylvania, and radiation safety. There is also focus on Three Mile Island and the question of nuclear power.
