This collection contains the records of the Education Committee of the 1983-1984 session, Democrats in the Majority. The Majority Chairman was James J. A. Gallagher (D) and the Minority Chairman was Roger Raymond Fischer (R). The Majority Sub-Committee Chairman on Basic Education was Ruth B. Harper (D) and the Minority Sub-Committee Chairman on Basic Education was Stephen F. Freind (R). The Majority Sub-Committee Chairman on Higher Education was Ronald R. Cowell (D) and the Minority Sub-Committee Chairman on Higher Education was Fred Taylor (R). The Secretary was Dwight Evans (D).

Some of the major topics of discussion were directing the House Education Committee to study early intervention programs for handicapped infants and preschool children, providing for mandatory programs, providing for a Statewide program of testing and remediation, further providing for voting of boards, and further providing for the granting of diplomas.
