Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

The majority of the collection is Kenneth Smith's legislative works, regarding education and well-being of the citizens. There is also extensive district materials and correspondence. Representative Smith's legislative priorities were job creations in the Commonwealth, fortifying public education, and protecting the most vulnerable citizens of Pennsylvania. Some of his prime legislation included House Bill 1265 (2011), which required all public, nonpublic, parochial, private or charter schools to keep and maintain automated external defibrillators in all occupied school buildings, House Bills 893 (2011), requiring nursing homes and older adult facilities to perform background checks on new patients to verify if they were a convicted sex offender, House Bill 1266 (2011) implementing a written alcohol policy in all colleges, universities, and community colleges in Pennsylvania, and House Bill 1364 (2011) establishing a statewide Drug and Alcohol Treatment Fund. His House Resolution 146 (2011) created Workers Memorial Day on April 28.
