Scope and Contents
The 2001-2002 Consumer Affairs Committee was chaired by Republican, Chris R. Wogan (majority) and by Democrat, Joseph Preston Jr. (minority). The chairs of the Subcommittee on Public Utilities were Republican, Kenneth M Jadlowiec and by Democrat, Susan Laughlin. The chairs of the Subcommittee on Telecommunications were Republican, William F. Adolph Jr. and Demcorat, Ronald I. Buxton. The Secretaries were Republican, John R. Evans and Democrat, R. Ted Harhai.
During the 2001-2002 period in which this committee operated, some of the main focuses were to prevent fraudulent advertisement or business efforts on the parts of several different companies (PPandL, PJM's Interconnection LLC, and Penn State's Energy Institutes).
Topics such as prevention in resale of returned automobiles, prohibiting blocking of caller identification and other telemarketing screening products or services were addressed by the Consumer Affairs Committee. These topics as well as The Notary Public Law, further providing for register, for copies of records and for certain powers of notaries and Act no. 222, prohibiting certain facsimiles, commercial electronic transmissions and the use of text, graphic or image messaging systems of wireless telephone systems to transmit unsolicited commercial messages were also addressed by the Consumer Affairs Committee.
