DERMODY, Francis J., a Representative from Allegheny and Westmoreland Counties; born in Scranton, Lackawanna County, Pa., May 29, 1951; B.A., history, Columbia University, 1973; J.D., Indiana University School of Law-Bloomington, 1982; sales associate; attorney; assistant public defender, Dauphin County; assistant district attorney, Allegheny County (1984-1990); District Justice (June 1986-January 1987); legal advisor, Allegheny County District Justices (1989-1990); instructor, Community College of Allegheny County; faculty member, Pennsylvania Bar Institute for Continuing Legal Education; elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1990; reelected to the House for 14 more consecutive terms; lead prosecutor and leader of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives investigation on Supreme Court Justice Rolf Larsen (1994); elected, Majority Caucus Secretary (2007-2009); elected, Majority Whip (December 17, 2009-2010); elected, Minority Leader (2011-2020); appointed, Pennsylvania Commission on Sentencing (1991-2010; chair, 14 years); appointed, Joint State Government Commission (2011-2020); appointed, Legislative Data Processing Center Commission (2011-2020); unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House (2020); appointed, Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (2021-present).
