George, Camille "Bud", 1927-2017
Biography
Camille “Bud" George was a Representative from Centre and Clearfield Counties. He was born on December 23, 1927 in Houtzdale, Clearfield County, Pa, where he continued to live throughout his life. George graduated from Houtzdale High School in 1944, and attended the American School of Chicago. He received an honorary doctorate of jurisprudence from Lock Haven University. George served in the United States Navy during World War 2 from 1945 to 1946. After he returned, he became a partner at Jacob George Ford Sales, Inc. He was later elected Mayor of Houtzdale Borough in 1966 serving until 1970. He was later elected Mayor once again in 2013 following his House service, and continued serving in that position until his death in 2017. George served as Chair of the Clearfield County Democratic Committee (1968-1970), and was elected a council member of Houtzdale. George also served as an administrative officer for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (1972-1974) before being elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1975 term. He was reelected to serve 18 more consecutive terms/ During that time, he was appointed to the Joint Legislative Air and Water Pollution Control and Conservation Committee (1983-2008); board member, PennVEST (1989-2012); Environmental Quality Board (2003); Green Ribbon Commission (2004); Joint Conservation Committee (2009-2012). George retired from the House in 2012. During his retirement, he was elected as a delegate to the Democratic National Conventionin both 2004 and 2008. He died on September 1, 2017 in Houtzdale, Clearfield County, Pennsylvania, and is interred in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Brisbin, Clearfield County, Pennsylvania.
