Biography

Bernard “Bernie” T. O’Neill is a former representative from Bucks Country. He was born in the city of Philadelphia in Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania in 1953. In 1971 O’Neill graduated from William Tennent High School. O’Neill earned his A.A. from Bucks County Community College and his B.S. from The Pennsylvania State University in 1973. In 1983 he earned his M.A. in education from Temple University and further pursued graduate courses at The Pennsylvania State University, East Stroudsburg University, Wilkes College, Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania, Marywood College, and the Philadelphia College of Performing Arts.

O’Neill was a special education teacher at William Tennent High School from 1977-2003. He worked as the deputy state constable of Warminster Township from 1980-1982. O’Neill was also the migrant program consultant and counselor at Bucks County Intermediate Unit #22 from 1980-1986. From 1998-2002, he served as the chair on the board of supervisors of Warminster Township. O’Neill was first elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives as a Republican in 2002 and was later reelected to serve seven more consecutive terms. In 2011, he was appointed as Deputy Whip and served in that role for a year. In 2012, O’Neill was elected as a delegate for the Republican National Convention. He was later appointed to the board of the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency and served from 2017-2018. He was not a candidate for reelection in 2018, but was elected in 2019 to the Centennial School District school board, where he continues to serve.
