Biography
Sandra Major was born in Seaford, Sussex County, DE, September 4, 1954 and graduated from Mountain View High School in 1972. She received an A.A. degree from Keystone Junior College and in 1974 she attended the University of Scranton. Major was Susquehanna County Treasurer from 1992 to 1995 and a Legislative Aid for Representative Carmel Sirianni from 1980 to 1988. Major was a Republican House member representing Sullivan, Susquehanna, Wayne, and Wyoming counties from 1995 to 2016. She served as Minority caucus chairman from 2007-2016. While in office, Major served on teh following standing committees: Aging and Youth, Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Game and Fisheries, Local Government, Education, Ethics, Professional Licensure, Finance, and Committee on Committees. She also served as Republican Caucus Chair from 2007 to 2010 and Majority Caucus Chair from 2011 to 2016. Sandra Major chose not to run again in 2016.

This collection is comprised of various materials that Sandra Major produced and utilized during her time as a Representative in the Pennsylvania House from 1995 to 2016. Two cubic feet worth of records contain mostly her prime-sponsored legislation and district materials. Many of the items deal with issues relating to Marcellus Shale and fracking within her district. The geography of her district became a center point of this booming industry in the early 2000s.
