biographical statement
Terence "T.J" Rooney served the residents of the 133rd District, Lehigh and Northampton Counties, as a Democrat in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from 1993 to 2006. Born in Garden City, N.J. in 1964, Mr. Rooney was educated at West Essex Sr. High School and attended Catawba College.
Mr. Rooney was the first elected official to represent the 133rd legislative district and was reelected for five consecutive terms. Prior to running for State Representative, Mr. Rooney received the Bethlehem Elks Citizen of the Year Award and worked with Historic Bethelehem, Inc.
During his tenure as representative, Mr. Rooney was assigned to the Aging and Youth Committee (Subcommittee Chairman on Youth), the Consumer Affairs Committee, the Insurance Committee (Vice Chair), the Intergovernmental Affairs Committee (Subcommittee Chairman on Federal State Relations), the Military and Veteran Affairs Committee and the Professional Licensure Committee.
In 2006, Mr. Rooney decided to retire from the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. Mr. Rooney is currently Managing Director of the Tri State Strategies PA, L.L.C., a Pennsylvania lobbying organization. He also served as Chair of the Pennsylvania Democratic Party from 2003 to 2010, where he was a key player in winning Pennsylvania for Barack Obama in the 2008 presidential election.
