 Person

biographical statement

Katherine "Katie" True (R) served as a Representative in the House serving the 37th District of Lancaster County from 1993-2000 and again was a Representative serving the 41st District of Lancaster County from 2003-2010.

True was born in 1941 in Baltimore, Maryland and graduated from J.P. McCaskey High School, in Lancaster, in 1958.

True was appointed by Governor Tom Ridge as executive director to the Pennsylvania Commission for Women on December 1, 2000. While serving as director, True began a campaign for Pennsylvania Auditor General and was selected as the Republican candidate for the General Election of November 2000. Unsuccessful in her bid, True decided to run for the newly created district for Lancaster County's growing population, the 41st District, which formally represented constituents of Allegheny County. True served Lancaster County's 41st District from 2001 until her retirement in 2010.

True's professional accomplishments involve efforts to curb drug and alcohol abuse among Pennsylvania's youth and raise awareness to women's issues involving violence and breast cancer. True was also very involved in reshaping Pennsylvania's laws on adoption and providing fiscal accountability as a civil servant.
