biographical statement

Peter J. Zug served from 1993 to 2006 in Pennsylvania’s 102nd District, which consists of parts of Lebanon and Dauphin counties. A native of Lebanon County, he was born on November 11, 1958. Mr. Zug received a BS degree from Kutztown University in 1980, and since his graduation, he has been employed as a public official in Lebanon County and as Administrative Assistant to Pennsylvania Senator David “Chip” Brightbill. During his tenure, Mr. Zug was on the Finance Committee from 1993-1996; the Veterans Affairs & Emergency Preparedness Committee from 1993-2006; the Commerce & Economic Development Committee from 1995-2001, serving as the Subcommittee Chair on Housing from 1997 to 2001; the Transportation Committee from 1995-1998, serving as the Subcommittee Chair on Railroads from 1995 to 1998; the Appropriations Committee from 1997-2006, serving as the Subcommittee Chair on Education from 2003 to 2006; the State Government Committee from 1999-2000; the Insurance Committee from 2001-2006; the Consumer Affairs Committee from 2003-2006; and the Policy Committee from 2005-2006. Notably, Mr. Zug was appointed as a Delegate to the Chesapeake Bay Commission, in which he was influential in creating the Chesapeake Bay Watershed program (Act 231 of 2004). The watershed program provides funding for school districts to do outdoor education in the watershed of the Chesapeake Bay or on the Chesapeake Bay. Mr. Zug was also instrumental in obtaining the funding for a state-of-the-art Rare Books Room at the Pennsylvania State Library, created specifically to preserve the General Assembly Collection, which dates from the Seventeenth Century. Mr. Zug was defeated in the primary election of 2006.
