biographical statement
Barbara McIlvaine Smith was born in 1950 in West Chester, PA, the daughter of Louise and William McIlvaine. She graduated from West Chester Henderson High School in 1968 and received a B.S. in Elementary Education from West Chester University in 1995.
She was a fourth grade teacher for Penn Wood Elementary and the Vice President/Owner of Brandywine Water Systems, Inc. She was a member and served on the board of many organizations in the Chester County area.
Mrs. McIlvaine Smith served as a Democrat from 2007-2010, representing the 156th district in Chester County. During her time in office, she served on the following standing committees: Aging and Older Adult Services, Children and Youth, Education (Chair of Subcommittee on Special Education), Health and Human Services, and Local Government.

Photographs, oversized framed materials are included. She donated materials from her relative, Martha Gibbons Thomas who was also a Member in 1923.
