David J. Steil served the 31st Legislative District, Bucks County, in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives as a Republican from 1993-2008. He was born on March 19, 1942 in Cold Spring, Minnesota and attended St. John's University from 1960-1962 and the University of Minnesota from 1962-1965. In 1976, he graduated from the American Management Institute in New York, NY, with a Certificate in Advanced Management. Prior to his election to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1992, Mr. Steil worked as the Vice President for the Goodall Rubber Company from 1964-1989 and as Vice President off the Environmental Control Group from 1962-1992. While serving as a representative, Mr. Steil also served as President and Owner of Micro Trap Corporation. He also served on the Planning Commission of Lower Makefield Township from 1980-1987 (chair from 1985-1987) and as a Supervisor of Lower Makefield Township from 1988-1992 (chair from 1990-1991). In addition to these activities, he acted as a member of the Lower Bucks Chamber of Commerce, the Newtown Historical Society, the Lower Makefield Historical Society and the Yardley Protective Association. He co-patented the Fire Breaker System in 1991.

Once elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, Steil served on the Local Government Committee from 1996-2008, the State Government Committee from 1993-2005, the Liquor Control Committee from 1995-2000, the Urban Affairs Committee from 1995-1996, Aging and Youth Committee from 1999-2000, the Intergovernmental Affairs Committee from 2001-2002 and 2007-2008, the Labor Relations Committee from 2001-2005 and the Finance Committee from 2003-2005. He also served on several non-legislative committees and caucuses including: the Delaware Canal Caucus, Delaware River Caucus, the Tax Reform Caucus, the Solid Waste Caucus and the Economic Development Task Force.

In addition to several other bills passed into law, he is responsible for Acts 67 and 68 of 2000 which have to do with Pennsylvania Municipalities Planning Code. Based upon the papers Mr. Steil donated, he was very active in transportation improvements in his district and worked intensively with education and reducing the number of teacher strikes in Pennsylvania.

Before the 2008 elections, Mr. Steil announced that he would be retiring from the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in order to focus on his business.

Mr. Steil is married to Karen Ann Rothstein and the father of Kevin and Pamela.
