Biographical Note

Curt S. Bowley served the 65th District (McKean, Forest, Venango and Warren Counties) in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives as a Democrat from 1985-1992. He was born August 10, 1954 and was educated at Slippery Rock University, earning a Bachelors of Science in Recreation in 1976, and at Penn State University, earning a Masters' of Science in Outdoor Recreation and Forestry in 1979. He owned Renewable Forest Products and served as Sheffield Township auditor from 1980-1984, Warren County Recreation Authority, Forest Technician for the U.S. Forest Service and Forest Fire Warden for the Pennsylvania Bureau of Forestry. He also served on the Warren County Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. Bowley was elected as a Member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1984. During his tenure, he served on the Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee, the Conservation Committee, the Game and Fisheries Committee (Secretary), the Youth and Aging Committee and the Federal-State Relations Committee. In addition to his standing committee service, Mr. Bowley was also a member on the Acid Rain Caucus and the Hardwood Council and served on the Special House Committee on Automobile Theft and Chop Shops during the 1985-1986 Session.

Some of the issues for which Mr. Bowley fought were funding for disaster recovery, the "bottle bill," 24 hour toll free phone line for the Department of Environmental Resources (DER), conservation issues, game and fishery laws, promotion of hardwood industries, bridge construction and abortion choice for women.

Curt Bowley was defeated in the general election of 1992 by Jim Lynch. After leaving the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, Mr. Bowley worked for the State Commerce Department as a liaison between businesses and government. In 1994, Bowley ran for Lieutenant Governor, but did not receive his party's nomination, and for the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, but was again defeated by Jim Lynch. Mr. Bowley ran for the Pennsylvania State Senate (25th District) in 1996, but was defeated by Republican William Slocum.
