Steven W. Cappelli served the 83rd District, Lycoming County, as a Republican in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from 2001-2008. Mr. Cappelli was born in 1963 and was educated at Penn State University graduating with an AE in nuclear engineering technology and a BA in political science in 1986. He also took public administration courses at Marywood College.

Before serving in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, Mr. Cappelli worked as special assistant to Congressman George W. Gekas from 1989-1990, as a federal programs coordinator for the Williamsport Area School District from 1990-1993, the director of Economic and Community Development for the City of Williamsport from 1993-1995 and as mayor of the City of Williamsport from, 1995-2000.

Elected in 2000, Mr. Cappelli began his first term as State Representative in 2001. He was assigned to the Aging and Older Adult Services Committee from 2001-2002, the Finance Committee from 2001-2008, the Labor Relations Committee from 2001-2008 and the Rules Committee from 2007-20087. He also served on the Appropriations Committee from 2003-2006 (Subcommittee Chair on Economic Impact and Infrastructure from 2007-2008) and the Urban Affairs Committee from 2001-2008 (Subcommittee Chair on Boroughs from 2001-2002; Subcommittee Chair on Third Class Cities and Counties from 2003-2006; and Subcommittee Chair on Third Class Cities from 2007-2008).

Legislatively, Mr. Cappelli was interested in libraries, public welfare, banning public smoking, property taxes, identity theft, gambling and prisoner pre-release plans.

Mr. Cappelli was defeated in the primary while running in 2008 for Roger Madigan's seat in the Senate.
