Born in 1951, Roger Nick graduated from Edinboro State University with a B.A. in Political Science in 1973. He immediately entered political life by becoming the Executive Director of the House Transportation Committee from 1973-1976. He then became Executive Assistant to Senator Robert J. Kusse from 1976-1983. He was the Legislative Liaison to the Department of Transportation between 1983 and 1985.

In 1985 Mr. Nick became Chief of Staff for Representative and Speaker Matthew J. Ryan. He held this position until Ryan's death in 2003 when he became the Vice President of Legislative and Board Affairs for the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency until 2005.

He was elected Chief Clerk of the House of Representatives on December 13, 2005. He is married to Karen Furgeson and has one child.

Scope and Contents

The items in this collection were gathered by Roger Nick when he was Chief of Staff for Representative Matthew J. Ryan between 1985 and 2003. The majority of the collection, however, is material related to the death of Ryan (funeral, memorials, etc.). There is a large collection of photographs covering the topics of swearing-in ceremonies, Republican Leadership, and posed portraits. A small group of objects is also contained in the collection.
