PERZEL, John M., a Representative from Philadelphia County; born, January 7, 1950 in the City of Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pa.; A.A., Enterprise State Junior College, 1972; B.A., Troy State University, 1975; attended, Gettysburg College, Temple University, and Auburn University; banquet manager and maître d’, Pavio’s Restaurant; leader, 64th Ward Republican Executive Committee; unsuccessful campaign, Pennsylvania House of Representatives (1976); elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1978; reelected to serve 15 terms thereafter; elected, Minority Whip (1993-1994); elected, Majority Leader (1995-April 15, 2003); elected, Speaker (April 15, 2003-2006); appointed, Speaker Emeritus (2007-2008); appointed, Joint State Government Commission (1993-2006); unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House (2010).
