biographical statement

As a standing committee of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, it is a long standing committee. Its original name was the Committee of Ways and Means (1813 - 1974). The committee changed names to the present Finance Committee in 1975 due to wanting to have parallel committees with the Senate.

The Finance Committee regularly considers bills and holds informational meetings on issues relating to taxes. More specifically these issues include tax credits, tax discounts, sales taxes, tax cuts, tax exemptions, corporate taxes, personal taxes, alternate valuations of property, rebates, and amendments to the Fiscal Code. It also considers bills dealing with vouchers and grants such as school property tax vouchers and heating grants for senior citizens. Various bills relating to small games of chance are also referred to this committee. The Finance Committee also reviews all proposed regulations of the Revenue Department.
