biographical statement
In 2004, Act 71, the Race Horse Development and Gaming Act, was passed by the Pennsylvania General Assembly. As part of the act, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) was established to oversee the creation of a slots casino industry designed to produce tremendous benefits for its citizens.
The Gaming Oversight Committee was created in 2007 at the start of the 2007-2008 Legislative Session by House Resolution 108 and is responsible for overseeing Pennsylvania's gaming industry, including the dealings of the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board. The legislature authorized 14 slot gaming facilities for the state, and shortly after the first slot machine gaming facility began operating in the state, the Committee was working. The Committee is required to carefully examine all future legislation regarding the state’s slot machines before they reach the full House of Representatives. The Committee may also hold hearings on the bills and they are required to review regulations to make certain the PGCB is consistent with legislative intent of Act 71 of 2004 and Act 135 of 2006.
