Biography
The Judiciary Committee is a long standing committee. Available records show it first existed as the Judiciary Committee (1802 - 1865). It was later split into two committees, the Judiciary System General and the Judiciary System Local (1866 - 1901). Next a third committee was added to the General and Local, the Judicial Apportionment (1902 - 1908). Then a fourth committee was added to the General, Local and Apportionment, the Judiciary Special (1909 - 1938). Next, the committees were combined to create two, the Judiciary General and the Judicial Special 1939 - 1946). The final name changed to the present form, Judiciary Committee in 1947.
Today the Judiciary Committe consists of three subcommittees: Subcommittee on Crime and Corrections, Subcommittee on Courts, and Subcommittee on Family Law.
