House. Youth and Aging Committee

 Organization

biographical statement

The Youth and Aging Committee was created in the 1989-1990 Session to deal more specifically with the issues of the increasing older population in Pennsylvania as well as the young people. These issues had previously been handled by the Youth and Aging Subcommittee in the Health and Welfare Committee.

In 1991, the name of the Youth and Aging Committee was changed to the Aging and Youth Committee and this Committee remained in existence until 2000. In 2001, the Aging and Youth Committee was broken into two separate committees: The Aging and Older Adult Services Committee and Children and Youth Committees because the issues surrounding both the older population and the youth in Pennsylvania required in depth committee work in addition to the issues being entirely separate in concerns, approach and handling.

During the Session of 1989-1990, the Youth and Aging Committee was divided into two subcommittees: the Subcommittee on Aging , chaired by Majority Representative Gary Haluska and the Subcommittee on Youth, chaired by Minority Representative David Argall.
