House. Task Force to Study the Impact of Closing and Redesigning PA's Mental Retardation Centers
biographical statement
On June 2, 1997, House Resolution 187 established a task force in the Health and Human Services Committee. The Task Force was formed to study The Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare’s policy of closing Pennsylvania’s mental retardation service centers and their five-year plan to redesign existing centers.
The Task Force was directed to study the impact these plans would have on the individuals living in those centers and their family members. The dislocation of personnel employed by the centers and the effects that these actions would have on the surrounding communities were other factors that the Task Force considered.
