House Resolution 192 created the House Select Committee to Investigate the Issue of Violence in our Communities as a result of House Resolution 139 which researched the causes of firearm violence in schools and determined that school violence is part of a broader problem of violence among youth and families in urban and rural communities.

The Chair was Dwight Evans and the Vice Chair was Elinor Z. Taylor. Members included Kevin Blaum, John Barley, Thomas Caltigirone, Leonard Gruppo, Ronald Cowell, Jeffrey Piccola, H. William DeWeese, Joseph Pitts, David Richardson, Jess Stairs, and Michael Veon.
