House Resolution 286 created the Select Committee to Investigate the Commonwealth’s Plan for Divesting Itself of State General Hospitals. HR 286 states that it had been alleged that the divestitures may not be in the best interests of the communities and/or patients who have been served by the State General Hospitals. The committee’s goal was to gather information before the Members of the General Assembly were required to vote on divestures.

Scope and Contents

The Committee's Chair was Democrat Camille "Bud" George.� Members included Democrats Edward Lucyk, Keith McCall and William Stewart; and Republicans David Argall, Lynn Herman, and Jess Stairs.� The Select Committee held public hearings in Philipsburg in June 1986.
