House Resolution 289 of 1989 created the Select Committee to Investigate the Effect of Divestiture of State General Hospitals as a result of the State having divested itself of some State General Hospitals and planning to divest itself of more.

Camille George (D) served as chairman and Robert Belfanti (D) was vice chairman. Democratic members included Andrew Billow, Stanley Jarolin and Thomas Stish. The Republicans were Robert Allen, David Argall, Lynn Herman, and Jess Stairs.

Scope and Contents

The Select Committee was charged with investigating the implementation of the Commonwealth's plan for divesting itself of State general hospitals, including, but not limited to, studies performed by the Commonwealth and by contracted consultants concerning divestitures, methods and procedures used in assessing health care needs, financial arrangements between the Commonwealth and the prospective owners and operations, and short-term and long-term effects divestiture has had on patients.
