As a standing committee in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, Business and Economic Development Committee (1993-1994) dealt with issues relating to business and community development. The Committee examined and discussed bills regarding business regulation, and held hearings on topics such as making cities and towns more business friendly. The Business and Economic Development Committee looked at regulations dealing with the Pennsylvania Securities Commission and the Department of Commerce.

The Committee has undergone many name changes over the years including the Business and Commerce Committee (1969-1992), Business and Economic Development Committee (1993-1994), Commerce and Economic Development Committee (1995-2002), and Commerce Committee (2003-present).
